Знаете, что первым делом поражает, когда попадаешь в современную (и, кстати, историческую!) столицу Сербии? То, как разрушенные бомбами здания соседствуют с современными высотками и уцелевшими историческими строениями. Дело не в отсутствии у сербов средств, чтобы снести эти мрачные *шрамы истории* - наоборот, пострадавшие от военных действий дома остались здесь исполнять роль памятников. И пусть часть жителей города такой идее не рада, именно это странное сочетание разрухи и процветания делает Белград удивительным.

You know what’s the first thing to hit you in the modern (and historical) capital of Serbia? It’s the buildings ruined by the bombs of the latest war, standing in the central part of the city, just next to the nice looking old houses and modern facilities. It’s not that Serbians don’t have the means to demolish those ‘scars of history’ off the city’s map – it’s that they don’t want to. Thing is, these scary giants are left there as the war monuments meant to remind everyone of what the country went thru just a decade ago. This unbelievable mix of ruins and wealth is what adds its charm to Belgrade.

 It was an early morning, with a long day ahead. Little I knew of the fortress we were about to visit, and that was what made it so exciting (I first spotted it while googling Serbian attractions, and couldn’t resist). The historical artifact is placed on the hill on the Danube river’s shore, about 140 km from the capital. There is no direct bus (or so we’ve been told at the station), and there are no railways in that area… And while I was waiting for my friend Djina at the station, my excitement about the upcoming trip was only getting stronger.

Утро было раннее, и впереди предвиделся долгий день. Малоизвестная крепость Голубац манила своим масштабом, красотой и неизведанностью, но добраться до нее – настоящее приключение. Наша прелесть взгромоздилась на холм прямо на берегу реки Дунай – всего в каких-то 140 километрах от столицы. Прямого автобуса я в интернете не нашла, а поезда туда и вовсе не ездят…  И пока я поджидала у жд станции Белграда свою подругу Джину, мой восторг от предстоящей поездки только усиливался.

It was noon and the sun was so damn hot as our train reached the city of Budapest. Normally, passengers from Ukraine are brought to either Nugati or Keleti stations, so the tricky part is to figure out which one it’ll be. Nugati it was, a very old and rather small place, where only half of the train managed to get under the roof. When you travel in Russia or Ukraine, you quickly get used to the crowds of taxi drivers and people renting out the flats – all of them meeting every arriving train or long-distance bus, trying to grab you by the hand or ‘help’ carry your luggage. Surprisingly, none of it could be seen here in Budapest.

Полуденное солнце венгерской столицы припекало через окно поезда, а впереди уже виднелся вокзал. После долгих выяснений оказалось, что прибываю я на станцию Нугати (поезда со стороны Украины поочередно доставляют пассажиров либо сюда, либо на Келети). Станция весьма небольшая, половина состава въехала в крытый ангар, а остальные вагоны не влезли. Нет ни толпы встречающих таксистов, ни вездесущих *помогателей*. Приехал в Будапешт? Ну, добро пожаловать, не будем тебе мешать.
